A little heart and a lot of hustle goes a long way.

It was a late summer day when Jennifer Comstock drove into my life. Literally.

Jennifer was up the road showing a house she was preparing to put on the market. Her enthusiasm shone as bright as the afternoon sun. Her energy felt as invigorating. After chatting a bit, I learned that this real estate investor, entrepreneur, foreclosure flipping coach, contractor finds houses, puts a ton of TLC into them using only the most trustworthy craftsman, then finds their forever homeowners. “I turn neglected houses into beautiful homes for families,” she said, flipping open the trunk of her SUV to show me her tools and work boots as proof.

And I was immediately sold, even though I was not in the market to buy a house. But if I was, Jennifer Comstock is the woman I’d turn to, hands down.

Owner of Hustle and Heart Homes out of Galway, New York, Jennifer Comstock has been helping people’s dreams come true since 2021. She showed me a few pictures on line of some of the houses she’d fixed up and was now selling, and I wracked my brains trying to think of people I could direct her to. They were that good. Better than good. Beautiful. And all brought to life by a woman in a predominantly man’s field! I love it!

So how did she get here? “During the pandemic, I spent some time researching alternative ways to make money and began to take courses in real estate investing,” Ms. Comstock said. “I joined an online Christian women’s group that was solely focused on teaching the strategies to become a confident and prosperous real estate investor, and after taking the courses, I bought my first fixer upper!”

While the pandemic gave her an opportunity to research and redefine her life, Jennifer stated, “The main reason that I wanted to start a business like this is to find a way to free myself from Corporate America, giving myself the time and freedom to choose how to spend my time and what to focus on.”

She soon learned that she truly was not comfortable in the corporate world, where she “spent too much time sitting in meetings that could have been an email.”

“There HAS to be more to life,” is a daily mantra for her. She refuses to “fit in a mold, and just go through the motions of what people call life. Most people are asleep at the wheel, waking up to punch the clock and living for the weekend to escape their reality.”

Being a blue-collar worker is more her speed, she added. “In this business, I am moving my body, using my muscles, solving problems, laughing, crying, sweating, and creating my way through each house.  I always write scriptures on the bare studs in any project, and pray over the house for the future family to come and love it just as much as I do.”

This isn’t a completely solo venture, she noted. In addition to a team of subcontractors she interacts with daily, Jennifer noted that the businesses she entrusts with her mission include Curtis Lumber, Elite Granite Design, Wolf Cabinetry, Yeti Mechanical, ED Carpet Pro NY, and Discount Flooring Supermart.

Together, she said, they focus on houses “within about a two-hour radius from Saratoga Springs, New York.  Trying now to finish up (other) outskirts properties so that I can tighten the circle to gain more efficiency.”

So committed to Hustle & Heart, Jennifer says that the only time she is not working is when she is sleeping. A typical day for her will find her “shopping for deals at Home Depot, creating mood boards and designs” for her team to help bring the vision she has for each house to life.

Seriously though, what does this empowered woman do in those extra down moments when she isn’t sleeping or working? You’ll find her “getting a manicure. I may work with my hands, but I am a lady after all.” Jenn also enjoys going to a spa and emphasized that “downtime and relaxing are super important, even if it’s only a few times a year.”

Jennifer also likes to cook, so maybe that is why she takes so much care in planning out the kitchens of the homes she flips. “I am actually a phenomenal chef and do really enjoy cooking, although right now all my meals are delivered to my house ready to heat up (thank you Cook Unity).”

With the right planning, Jennifer hopes for a return visit to Italy for her dream vacation. But then she added that she is a beach bum, so any destination with a beach would suit her fine.

A thriving business and culinary skills aren’t the only successes in Jennifer’s life. A marriage of 20 years and two sons, 17 and 19 are also on her list of accomplishments. And it’s with these loved ones in mind that Jennifer strives for her success. “The legacy I want to leave is a large real estate portfolio of income producing properties for my children.  Along with each finished home in my path, which provides a family a place to grow and love one another.”

As a young child Jenn wanted to be a lawyer. “I’m pretty good at arguing,” she clarified, laughing. But being the owner of Hustle and Heart Homes, really seems to be what Jenn is all about. When asked what it means to be a successful businessperson, she replied, “It means being in charge of my own destiny, not needing anyone else to provide for me, and hopefully inspiring someone along the way.”

Energetic, spiritual, and brave is how Jenn defines who she is. “Energetic, because I am always on the go and have already accomplished more than most people before lunchtime even rolls around. Spiritual, because I am mindful of where my talents and gifts have derived from, and I spend time each day thanking the Lord for giving me this opportunity. And brave because there just are not too many ladies in this field,” she explained.

Finding success led her to finding empowerment as a woman. “I am empowered to make decisions and mistakes, and to learn from them, and to never let them hold me back from continuing on toward my goals.”

Her advice to other women searching for their destination in life: “Wake up one hour early every single day to spend time meditating and planning your dreams.  The rest will come!”
