RS Library Authors and Artist Expo Review

was more a homecoming than a business venture.
Last weekend I had the amazing opportunity to return to an old stomping ground where I spent many a day writing news and feature from 2004 to 2009 for the Richfield Springs Mercury, published by Jay Bernhardt and JGB Enterprises.

This time I was not in Richfield Springs covering a story or laying out the paper. Rather, I was there as a romance author, sharing space with other local authors at the invitation of the Richfield Springs Library. The event took place in the picturesque Spring Park, located on the corner in the heart of the village.
My time with the RS Mercury was beloved. I met so many people and wrote about them, their hopes and dreams, accomplishments and weaknesses. Their loves and lives and deaths. It was an amazing opportunity to be part of Small Town America in a village that always, always came together to support one another. School events were packed, community events were packed. The library was always up to something.
The residents love and care about their community and that is a truth still, to this day.
I was able to meet old friends, new friends, and experience once again the love and comradery of this genuine Main Street Village. Here is a glimpse of what my day looked like.

is my super hot and sexy husband and Research Assistant, David, who is there through thick and thin.

These globes and snuff bottles are unique in that they are painted FROM THE INSIDE by the artist using a very tiny, specialized brush. While normally (it was explained to me) artists paint the background first, then the foreground (I’m not an artist so I don’t know the technical term for that!), this craft requires the foreground to be painted first, with the scene completed by painting the background. Oh and another thing, all the art is drawn UPSIDE DOWN. This is an ancient form of Chinese Art called Inside Painting or Inner Painting. Here’s a couple links to learn more about this art form.

It was so wonderful to see that the Richfield Springs Historical Association and Museum was alive and thriving! Talking with the woman tabling at the expo brought back fond memories of Marge Walters, the woman with the drive and dream that became and stayed a reality. Such a great addition to this community! Marge wasn’t able to be at the expo, but I enjoyed talking with the volunteer who updated me on the Richfield Springs Historical Association and Musuem’s happenings!

We wound our day down by shopping at all the cool vendors who were a part of this awesome expo. My only regret was that I did not get to snap a picture of Mindy Baker, the woman behind it all, who works at the RS Library and is also an author!
I’m including a list of all the authors who I was able to chat with at least for a moment. Check out their contact info below.
